TAKE TIME TO MEET THE DEANS

College deans, by definition, are at the very top of the academic heap. Given the number of relatively new college deans (three started just this past fall), VISIONS spent some time visiting with them about their colleges, their backgrounds, and their interests so you can get to know them a little better.

Area of expertise: Developing more healthful carbohydrates and enhancing the nutritional quality of fats and oils

Back story: Interim dean of the College of Family and Consumer Sciences 2003-05, interim chair of the Department of Food Science & Human Nutrition; 1981 PhD in food technology from Iowa State

What she eats: "Everything! I just eat it in moderation."

Family: Husband Scott is interim director of ISU's Department of Recreation Services; daughter Kristin Sjulin

No day is complete without: running and reading

What's cool about human sciences: "All the components of the college have been around since the very beginning of the university."
