Jan Breitman, director of travel and education programs, has announced that she will retire from the ISU Alumni Association on Jan. 15, 2010. Breitman has worked for the Association since 1978. In her 32-year tenure, she has worked with the clubs program, honors and awards, Board of Directors, The Circle, human resources, the Stanton Foundation, and the legacy program. As director of the travel program, Breitman planned and coordinated approximately 30 domestic and international alumni travel tours annually. She
also coordinated travel packages for alumni and friends to attend bowl games, NCAA tournaments, and other special Cyclone athletics events. In 2006, Breitman became the director of the College for Seniors (now the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at ISU) as well as the ISU Retirees Association.

“Jan has been the history, the collective memory, and the glue that holds this organization together,” said Jeff Johnson, ISU Alumni Association president. “Her retirement will leave big shoes to fill, as she has developed an incredible reputation among ISU constituents, one of the most highly respected alumni travel programs in the country, and a top-quality lifelong learning program. She will be greatly missed, but we wish her nothing but the best in her retirement.”

Randy Carroll joined the Association staff in August 2009 as the ISU Alumni Center building manager. He oversees the daily operations of the Center, including building and grounds maintenance and security. He
also manages events set-up and execution, and he supervises the Center’s student events staff. Carroll is the former director of maintenance for the Woodward-Granger (Iowa) School District.

“We are fortunate to have a person with Randy’s skills and experience, as well as his commitment to customer service, to run the day-to-day operations of the ISU Alumni Center,” said Johnson.

'Friends that turned into family' (Return to top)

More than 80 Delta Zeta alumnae who attended Iowa State in the 1990s gathered in Ames last June for a weekend reunion they called “Celebrating the nights that turned into mornings and the friends that turned into family.”

The women traveled from 17 states and Canada for the three-day event that included a “big slumber party” in the Delta Zeta sorority house, an Ames nightlife tour, and a banquet at the ISU Alumni Center.
Reunion coordinator Michelle Moseman (’98 computer
science) said, “All the attendees received a yearbook with an overview of all alumnae, including their cherished memories from college as well as updates on their lives since graduation.”
