Quilt contest
Calling all quilters!
There will be a special category in the 2007 Iowa State Fair fabric and threads competition in honor of Iowa State's 150th birthday. Entries may consist of any combination of quilting techniques and must be at least 36 inches on each side. The winner will receive $150. In addition, there will be a special competition that also includes out-of-state Iowa Staters to create quilt blocks that commemorate the university's sesquicentennial. Blocks will be 10 inches finished (10 1/2"); they cannot have additional fabrics and cannot be quilted. The blocks will be used to construct a finished sesquicentennial quilt, which will be on display throughout the fair and sold at the state fair auction on Aug. 18. Rules for entering will be available after May 1 by contacting the Entry Department, Iowa State Fair. So think it over and check out http://www.iowastatefair.org after May 1. In the meantime, happy stitching!
Extension service projects
Iowa State University Extension will celebrate the sesquicentennial through service projects at Extension's 100 county offices. ISU students and alumni, 4-Hers, ISU faculty, staff, and many others will join local Extension staff and volunteers to honor the university's contributions to each community through these service projects. The projects will be conducted from April through September 2007. To volunteer, contact your local county extension office. For more information, see the ISU Extension sesquicentennial Web site at http://www.extension.iastate.edu/150th
