In Brief
Alumni Center Update (Return to top)
More than two years of planning and fundraising are becoming visible as the Iowa State University Alumni Center comes out of the hill and Phase I fundraising draws to a close. Development on the project is progressing smoothly, and April 2008 is our scheduled completion date for construction. In terms of fundraising, we are extremely close to completing the $13 million in funding for construction, furnishings, and the building’s endowment. A Phase II fundraising effort (roughly $1 million) will begin soon, to cover landscaping, technology needs, art, and various miscellaneous items. The Alumni Center’s Art in State Buildings Committee is working to secure the public art for the center. Watch the construction progress online at www.fpm.iastate.edu/webcam/alumni/
Yours for Iowa State,

Jeff Johnson
President, ISU Alumni Association
Donor Profile: Jon Fleming
VISIONS asked Fleming about his decision to make a gift to the ISU Alumni Center.
“I think it’s a very important project. I think there will be a tremendous amount of visibility. It will be a place that alumni can call home.
“[I am financially supporting] Cy’s Pub and Parlor because I have a passion for Cyclone athletics. I’ve been a fan since my youth. The entire building project is very meaningful to me, but probably the one area that is at the top is athletics.
“I think on special occasion weekends – VEISHEA, Homecoming, game-day weekends – actually
having a physical structure where our alumni can gather will just strengthen the relationship between our alumni and the university.
“It’s a fabulous project. It’s going to be a tremendous addition to the Iowa State Center portion of campus.
I love the idea that it will be one of the first structures that friends and alumni of the university will see when they drive into campus.
“It’s going to be wonderful.”
