EMERGING
IOWA STATE ARTISTS DOMINATE IN THE EMERGING IOWA ARTISTS PROGRAM AT THE 2008 DES MOINES ARTS FESTIVAL

It’s a big step from making artwork to selling artwork.
That’s according to Asa Wentzel-Fisher (’08 integrated visual art), who for the second year in a row was selected to participate in the Emerging Iowa Artists Program at the Des Moines Arts Festival.

This year, of the 24 Emerging Iowa Artists, 1
5 were Iowa State students or recent graduates.

“It’s an amazing experience,” said Wentzel-Fisher, who exhibited his black- and-white photography. “It’s great exposure. I made good money and made better connections.”

The Emerging Iowa Artists Program is sponsored by Principal Financial Group. The program provides young Iowa artists the opportunity to exhibit their artwork at a nationally known art festival without any cost to apply or exhibit their work.

“It helps get your name out there,” said Dustin Whited, a senior in integrated studio arts.

The annual Des Moines Arts Festival was held June 27-29.
